Thursday 13: Mayne Island

Last month, mommy and daddy went to Vancouver for a vacation. As part of that trip, they went to Mayne Island to meet with daddy's gma (our great-gma!!). For this week's Thursday Thirteen, we picked some random photos of their trip there:

1. To get to Mayne Island, you have to take a ferry. Both mommy and daddy loves the ferry coz they grew up going on the ferry to fun places for day trips like Victoria. On the ferry, daddy got very excited when he saw his favourite landmark on Mayne Island, the lighthouse:

2. Once daddy and mommy met his gma at the ferry terminal, they proceeded right away to the lighthouse:

3. This lighthouse was a very important lighthouse at the time. It was so important, that the residents on Mayne Island got together and built a memorial to this lighthouse:

4. For years, the lighthouse helped large ships like this BC Ferry (that is the kind of ferry mommy and daddy were on) navigate this channel, so that they did not get too close to either Mayne Island or Galiano Island on the other side and run aground:

5. Before they left the lighthouse park, daddy noticed this cute tree standing out on its own point in the park. He also noticed the two sailboats in the ocean (background), which made him jealous:

6. Next, they went to the Japanese Garden. It is a big and beautiful park full of all kinds of trees and shrubs and flowers in a zen-like garden, with streams and bridges and benches. There were many, many flower photos that they took, but this structure in the Garden was very intriguing:

7. After that, they went to Oyster Bay. It is a bay that is shaped like an oyster, and it has a little rocky island, which is on the right hand side of the photo. It is a special bay, because the wind will from little caves in the rock. These caves can only be seen during low tide. Even though they couldn't see any caves, they still enjoyed the picturesque beauty:

8. Then they went to Campbell Bay. Daddy wanted to go there to see the pebble beach. He said he remembered the trail down to the beach was very steep and narrow, but now the Island maintains that trail, widening it and putting with a set of stairs to get from the bottom of the trail to the beach. There was a fishing boat in this bay, and daddy explained that there were lots of fish around the island, that's why:

9. Then they went to a park, which had a very long trail out to a beautiful point. Daddy took this picture when he was almost at the point. You can barely see it in the middle of the picture (you may have to biggify), but you can see Mount Baker:

10. Here is another picture daddy took near the point. Mayne Island is in fact one of a group of island between the Vancouver mainland and Vancouver Island. This group is called the Gulf Islands.

11. When they got tired, they wen to their bed and breakfast which was in Miner's Bay. It is the two story dark brown building to the right of the brick house in the middle of the picture:

12. They really liked the room that they were staying in, because it was on the 2nd storey and it had a huge window which overlooked Miner's Bay. Daddy took this picture just as it was turning dusk:

13. This is daddy and mommy on Mayne Island. They had such a gurreat time there, as you can see by their big smiles. They want to come back again.

And that was their trip to Mayne Island!

Happy Thursday, everykitty and everyone!

Saturday Photo Hunters: Music

For mommy, the gentle roll of the waves to the sand at Spanish Banks Beach in Vancouver is the sound of music to her ears. She misses this "music" very much, now that she has lived in landlocked Calgary for over 10 years.

What's music to us kitties? The best music would be the shaka-shaka-shaka of that tasty bag of Temptations!!! Ooooh - do we run ever so fast!!

Happy Saturday everyone and everykitty!!

White Wednesday

So for the past two weeks, all I could do was mope and dream of my dearest wonderfullest Ramses. I missed him very much, as you can see in this picture. I was very, very sad, and I almost had tears rolling down to my pink nose.

But now that I am back, I am so happy to be teleportin' to da sunroom and be with my Ramses!

Happy Wednesday, kitties!

Terrible Tuesday: Vishus Deer Alert

NOTE: Kittens and "tender young juicy" cats should avert their eyes from the picture below!!!!

So sorry about our sudden disappearance for two weeks. Mommy got busy at work and then has been out of town the last couple of weekends to see family and take a much needed vacation, so she's had no time for us to be online. We were very sad we couldn't get on, coz we missed all of you.

But we are back now...and unfortunately with the most frightful news!

You see, our mommy and daddy went away this long weekend to a place called Waterton, to which place they go every year for a short weekend vacation. They liked the place a lot, and they said they had a lot of fun, canoeing and golfing and walking along the lakeshore.

They also saw a lot of deer in the townsite. A lot of them. They were EVERYWHERE. They boldly grazed on the front lawns while the humans were nearby watering their flowers. They hung out in the shade in the backyard as the humans were there sipping beer. They strolled the streets with their fawns, as if they too were doing some Saturday shopping.

And then mommy and daddy came back to their lodge one afternoon and discovered that the lodge had a new resident relaxing in the shade of the lodge (avert your eyes now, little ones!):

Daddy walked up real close to him (maybe 5 ft?) to take the picture with his cellphone. He was a young buck...but already he's been sharpening his antlers, as you can see by what's left of the dangling velvet that used to cover his antlers - to see biggify the picture above. Mommy was in a bit of a panic. And of course we freaked when we saw the picture....

If you ever doubted that the vishus deer are planning WORLD DOMINATION...here is irrefutable proof. Right in this townsite in the Waterton Lakes National Park! Skeezix, help us! What can we do to stop this???
